What is a hybrid car?

A hybrid car combines two power sources: fuel and electricity. There are three main types of hybrid cars: hybrid, mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid. A fully hybrid car can run on either fuel, electricity or a combination of the two. A mild hybrid always runs on a combination between the combustion engine and electric motor. Lastly, a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) can run solely on electricity but needs to be plugged into the mains supply, like an electric car, in order to charge.

How does a hybrid car work?

Hybrid cars are powered by two main sources: an internal combustion engine and an electric motor. Depending on the type of hybrid car you have, these power sources can either work simultaneously or in silo.
